Summery of work

open evening:

Other tasks:

Summery:

For open evening as a class we all came together to talk about the ideas we had for open evening which we then wrote down and finalised which ideas we were actually going to use for the open evening. We then all split into different groups where we would focus on planning each one of the ideas we had come up with. My group was focusing on bands and DJs to promote the music courses in the college. I decided that I would work on the music side of open evening as I have already been doing music at college for 2 years.

To plan for this my group had to talk to different bands to see if they were available to preform on the open evening night which began

5-7, and talk to DJ's as well to see if there was anyone that could also DJ on the night. During the planning my group decided that we would have the bands up on the Mezzanine in the canteen area so it would be the first thing that people saw when entering the college, and we would have the DJ in the music area where the booths and other classrooms were so that parents and students could also look around at all of the equipment we have for music students. We then had to speak to techs to find out if it was possible to use the equipment for bands and djs and if we could get assistance on the night setting up the equipment Once this was all sorted we began making posters for the music area and other areas directing people on open evening where the events were going to be taking place around the college.

On the open evening night my group helped set up the equipment for the bands while doing this the techs advised it would be more practical to have bands downstairs in the canteen rather than up on the Mezzanine and the DJ to preform at the entrance of the music room. Once this had been set up we helped other students on our course in setting up their activities and hanging up posters around the college.

When the evening had finished we then packed all of the activities away and took down posters and equipment to finish the night off.

Other tasks I have been involved in during my first Project was to think of ideas for creating another event of my choice. For this task I decided that I would create an event either at the Lido which is on the seafront in Worthing town or Bar 42. For this task I bullet pointed a few ideas of what I would need to do to make this night successful, such as: how many bands I would need, ways of promoting the event like creating posters and social media links and I would also need equipment and techs for sounding act. Planning for this event will help me with my project 2 task when I will actually be creating an event and putting the event on.

Another task I have taken part in while working on project 1 was recording an interview of me and another student I was working with. For this task we had to ask 5 questions to each other so that we could learn more about each other and our experiences. We set up a mic and recorded our interview onto Logic where we then added music in the background of the interview and added automation to get the pitch of each question the same volume. We then created a logo for the interview and uploaded it onto Soundcloud.

I have also done Event research on an event I have already been to, for this I decided to research a festival I have been to which was Nass Festival. I then talked about what was good about the festival and what needed improving, the financial benefits and what the festival was like as a whole this will also help me in creating my own events as I know what I need to focus on and from experience what to include.

To summarise from project 1 I think I have acquired a lot of skills on creating events as I now know what kind of things I need to focus on when planning for an event, and from experience with open evening what sort of things are appropriate for a certain event and what things don't work as well with certain audiences.

Other skills I have acquired while doing this project are my ability to create my own graphic designs, this is very useful as I can create logos for my own track and create posters for events that I have created.

I have also got more knowledge in equipment needed for bands and have had more participation with the theatre and setting up equipment for there too.

Lastly, I have also achived more skills in communicating with people in my class and around the college and even with parents as when doing open evening we had to talk to parent to help them out, and organisation skills as when planning for an event I had to be very organised in what needed doing.

If I was to do this project again I would change some of the activities for open evening for example the photo booth as not a lot of people wanted to get involved in this task possibly as people were shy and maybe the it wasn't the right audience for this activity. I would also improve the type of music the bands play as the first band on open evening were too loud and didn't have the right attitude for this event.

For my eco system I included links to different venues and websites with blogs magazines and tickets to venues. This will help me with my current project as I will be able to get ideas from other websites that are holding events of what type of information to use and what kind of graphic design ideas they use. It will also help me with finding out what places in my area are good for holding my own event at and what audience is best for my event.
